Alaska Weddings – Olivia + Neil

In December I had the opportunity to create wedding flowers at Our Lady of The Snows Chapel in Girdwood. I’ve seen many photos of this quaint cabin in the woods but there was something special about being there in person for the first time.

Olivia and Neil were looking for a wintery floral decor without too much of a Christmas look so I used flowers in deep magenta and scarlet.

A huge thanks to Grace Adams Photography for her breathtaking photos. She’s one of my favorite wedding photographers and I was thrilled to finally be able to work with her.

A perfect winter wedding to be sure.

The bride’s bouquet was brimming with the most exquisite white waxflower. She had wanted anemones in her bouquet but they unfortunately weren’t available. I was so happy Olivia was open to my using burgundy gerber daisies instead. Their dark centers gave the look of anemones and are much more durable a flower.

The dark bridesmaids’ dresses made all the bouquets pop!

It was hard for me not to wear around the flower girl’s crown, which was chock full of baby’s breath, waxflower and spray roses.

Red hypericum berries gave the boutonnieres a little bit of punch.

The altar centerpiece was one of my pride and joys. Trailing amaranthus was spilling over the sides and with the eucalyptus, stock and waxflower filled in between the roses it smelled so good!

I had so much fun designing the centerpieces and got some wonderful assistance from my friend Rachel of Alaska Blooms Peony Farm.

But what I really enjoyed working on was the garland for the sweetheart table.

Alaska Weddings – Caitlin + Jason

I don’t have the opportunity to do winter wedding flowers too often. Alaskans make the most of their summer and usually get married from June-August. When bride Caitlin hired me for her January wedding I was thrilled. She wanted all white and greenery.

Caitlin and Jason lucked out – the morning of their wedding it was like a magical snowy fairy land. Anchorage has been severely lacking in snow for the past four winters and this year hasn’t disappointed. We got about 18 inches on their wedding day.

Thanks to Erica Rose Photography for capturing my florals so perfectly!

Caitlin wanted simplicity so I went with white stock, roses, carnations and waxflower mixed with eucalyptus.

Caitlin had me wrap her bouquet in blush silk ribbon. I was overjoyed to finally have the opportunity to use this. It was a dream to wrap and tie! She had me add a little “something blue” at the last minute.

It was the perfect combination when it came to outside shots. Look at that snow globe of a world Caitlin got!

Alaska Weddings: Ariel + Erik

I’m always learning something new with each wedding. With Ariel and Erik it was sending fresh flowers nearly 1,200 miles. This couple lives in Unalaska and for the first time I shipped my floral creations far, far away.

Alaska Weddings: a weekend of Lisas

Flower combinations and colors constantly amaze me. This weekend I had two weddings that couldn’t have been more different. Both were rustic. Both brides happened to be named Lisa.

The first Lisa is having a country western style wedding with dusty rose, pale pink, ivory and tan themes. I was thrilled when Rebecca of LaBoum Events asked me to make these flowers. She wanted an arrangement inside a birdcage. Uh…yes! That’s so cool!

I picked wild moss from a nearby forest to line the cage and filled it with eucalyptus of all kinds, dusty rose carnations, roses, feathers, stock, mums and limonium.

The bouquet was shabby chic.

Alaska Weddings: Lena + Ivan

Last winter I did flowers for a couple in Alyeska. When I delivered them to the bride’s suite she introduced me to her maid of honor and said she would be getting married next summer.

Fast forward to today when I delivered flowers to bride Lena’s suite and I was greeted by last winter’s bride. The tabled turned and she was now the maid of honor. I love how small this town is.

Lena and Ivan’s colors were navy, coral, cream and orange. A perfect palette for the amazing autumn weather we’re having.

This bouquet made me giddy! The most perfect little orange spray roses looked like miniature garden roses. Combined with peach carnations, cream roses, solidago, scabiosa pods, salmon hypericum berries, billy balls and seeded eucalyptus — this bouquet was just what the bride ordered.

Alaska Weddings: Kate + Joe

I love last-minute gigs. There’s a certain thrill about making people happy when they haven’t had a lot of time to plan. This was the case with Kate and Joe. Their good friend, Alyse had met me earlier this summer at a downtown Anchorage street fair where I was making flower crowns and she decided as a gift to the bride and groom she would purchase flowers for their Eklutna Lake wedding.

It was going to be a true Alaska wedding. The party wore XTRATUFs, the groomsmen donned Pendleton plaid with Patagonia puffy vests and the bride wore a yellow dress. Bride Kate wanted a wildflower, colorful bouquet and some corsages and boutonnieres.

It was a lot of fun working on this small wedding. For focal flowers I used small sunflowers and protea (also called pincushion). Surrounding these were purple mini asters, button mums and peach mini carnations. It was delightful.

My son was thrilled when I had some leftover flowers. He made his own arrangement to give to my friend Laura.

Marin Wedding: Kate + Jeremy

A few months ago I was offered a unique chance to take my floral skills out of state. A family friend’s daughter, Kate, was getting married in Marin County, a paradise in the Bay Area. This was not only an opportunity to work with flowers I can’t get up in Alaska but it also meant I could reunite with my old floral partner, Evan Falconer of Paper Peony.

I had to start out this post with a photo. There’s no more unique flower than an indigo anemone. I’ve never seen them before and jumped with joy at the opportunity to work with them.

Alaska Weddings: Peter + Jessica

Brides are all different. Some know what they want, others need a little more guidance, but some have a creative vision. Jessica was one of those brides. She and her mother came to me with the boldest theme I’ve encountered yet – burgundy, gold and deep purple. When they told me those colors, my eyes got big and I just said, “Oooooooh!”

A bridal bouquet of true majesty. Burgundy peonies, gold sprayed eucalyptus, antique pink carnations, red roses, white spray roses, burgundy and white stock, rosemary, purple mini carnations, Italian ruscus and leucadendron is a perfect wild, regal, ravishing flower arrangement fit for a queen! Designed by Natasha Price of alaskaknitnat.com

I seriously contemplated putting on my wedding dress just to hold the bridal bouquet (the above photo is the toss bouquet).

Alaska Weddings: Dylan + Hannah

Many brides I work with are Alaskan through and through and ask to have bits of Alaska incorporated into their flowers. This makes my job even more fun because I get to forage from the forest. Today’s wedding was full of forest ferns.

Hannah and Dylan’s wedding had a vintage vibe. As I was dropping off the flowers Hannah’s aunt arrived in a black A-line with a fascinator that belonged to her grandmother.
