Flower crowns are my thing and nearly every time I wear one in public someone comments that I resemble Frida Kahlo, the Mexican feminist and painter.

So this halloween I decided to embrace it, unibrow and all. It just took one visit to the thrift shop and a little digging in my closet to come up with a colorful Frida-esque costume.
What you’ll need:
- Colorful cotton blouse
- Long gathered skirt
- Shawl or scarf
- Hoop earrings
- Big necklace
- Flower crown (see video tutorial below)
- Colorful heels
I did have a couple of convenient items in my closet already, namely, a hand-embroidered mexican dress and a Spanish dancer hair comb. The comb was my “something blue” when I got married.

I’ll be wearing a fresh flower crown on Halloween day, of course. You can make one using this neat tutorial I made a couple of weeks ago.
Your Mexican blouse is beautiful as is the rest of your outfit. A great outfit to wear for any festive occasion.
Thank you, Susan! I adore this style of blouse and wear them whenever I can. I collect them for my mother, who turns them into gorgeous quilted accent pillows. But sometimes they are too precious to not wear!
Natasha, I too adore this style blouse. Ophs thought that your dress was a blouse. It is beautiful and looks special on you.. I have some that I have been able to purchase while traveling many years ago. I cherish them because each one has a different and unique style of embroidery. Your comb is a true treasure.
Wow Natasha The resemblance is uncanny. New York Botanical Garden where I am now consulting is just closing a show of Firda’s artwork and her garden at Casa Azul. Her image has been all over NYC all summer. Love Aunt Jenny
